Initial Detailed Inspection of Electrical Ex Installations

MIBEX performs initial detailed inspections of electrical installations in potentially explosive atmospheres. These inspections verify whether Ex equipment has been correctly selected, installed and documented before the installation is put into service.

The inspections are carried out according to EN IEC 60079-14, which specifies the requirements for the design, selection, installation and initial inspection of electrical Ex installations.

What Does an Initial ATEX Inspection Include?

Depending on the installation and the applicable types of protection, the inspection covers:

  • Suitability of Ex equipment for the hazardous area classification, including equipment category, EPL, gas or dust group and temperature classification.
  • Correct installation of Ex equipment according to the applicable standards and manufacturers' instructions.
  • Selection and installation of cables, cable glands, connections and enclosures.
  • Earthing and equipotential bonding.
  • Verification of intrinsically safe circuits and associated documentation.
  • Assessment of protective devices, installation conditions and relevant technical documentation.

Where required, electrical measurements and tests can be included within the agreed inspection scope.

Inspection findings are documented in a report, including any identified non-conformities and recommended corrective actions.

Practical and Independent Assessment

MIBEX combines extensive experience in explosion protection with in-depth knowledge of the EN IEC 60079 series of standards.

Our inspection services focus on initial detailed inspections of new electrical Ex installations, particularly as part of new machinery, skids and industrial projects.

Michiel Bakker holds an IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence (CoPC) in explosion protection: IECEx CP DEK20.0025

For technical assessments of equipment, machinery and assemblies, we also provide ATEX and IECEx consultancy and explosion-safe design support.
